Brady Bill (1993) - H.R. 1025 (Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act of 1993).
Question on passage of the bill as amended; voted on November 20, 1993. Agreed to,
63-36-1. Established a waiting period before the purchase of a handgun; mandated the
establishment of a national instant criminal background check system to be utilized by firearms
dealers before the transfer of any firearm.
Crime Bill (1994) - H.R. 3355 (Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994).
Question on the Conference Report; voted on August 25, 1994. Agreed to, 61-38-1.
Imposed a ban on the manufacture and sale of semi-automatic firearms commonly referred to as
"assault weapons" to the civilian market. Ban designated to sunset in 2004 unless reauthorized
by Congress and the President.
10-Year Extension of Semi-Auto Ban (2004) - S. Amdt. 2637 to S. 1805 (Protection of
Lawful Commerce in Arms Act). Question on amendment by Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA); voted
on March 2, 2004. Agreed to, 52-47-1. Provided for a 10-year extension of the firearms
ban included in H.R. 3355.
"Gun Immunity" Bill (2005) - S. 397 (Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act). Question on passage
of the bill; voted on July 29, 2005. Agreed to, 65-31-4. Prohibited civil liability
actions from being brought or continued against firearms/ammunition dealers, distributors,
importers, or manufacturers for damages, injunctive or other relief resulting from the misuse
of their products by others.
